Goldberg has responded to the narrative that he is an unsafe worker, stating that he would never intentionally harm anyone.
Rightly or wrongly, the WWE Hall of Famer and former NFL player has garnered a reputation among some fans that he is dangerous in the ring, most notably due to comments made many times by Bret Hart. At WCW Starrcade 1999, the 4-time World Champion kicked Hart in the head, which ultimately led to The Hitman being forced to retire years before he was ready. In multiple media interviews since, Hart has continually blamed Goldberg for what took place and has yet to forgive the Hall of Famer despite numerous apologies.
In addition to the controversial Hart incident, Goldberg also dropped The Undertaker on his head during their infamous Saudi Arabia match, and has also injured himself multiple times, including the aforementioned Undertaker match and his return match against Brock Lesnar in 2016. Although the Hall of Famer is known for having an explosive style and high-impact moves, others see it as reckless. With the topic being brought up to Goldberg in an interview, the WCW legend set things straight.
Goldberg Does Not Believe He Is Unsafe: “I Would Never Take Advantage Of Anybody”
Speaking with Dan Sileo of JAKIB Sports, the former World Champion addressed the infamous Hart match and maintained that it was an accident:
“I kicked Bret Hart in the head on accident a hundred years ago and I’ve been remorseful ever since. And I’ve said I was sorry. I was young in the business, no question, and people make mistakes.”
Continuing, Goldberg added that he is grateful to have been given the opportunity and would not have taken advantage of anyone who helped him find success in the industry:
“People have to understand that I was extremely lucky to break into the business when I did…There were guys that were unbelievable sources of information, the coaches, and the people who took the time to help me out. I never would take advantage of anybody. Do you think I’m gonna cheapshot people?”
Goldberg will face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship on July 12th at Saturday Night’s Main Event. WWE has since confirmed via press release that this will be his final match.
