Gable Steveson Released By WWE

Gable Steveson

Gable Steveson is the latest name to be released from his WWE contract.

As reported by Dave Meltzer, Steveson was among the WWE NXT releases that took place on Friday, May 3rd. Steveson was not named among the initial releases on Friday and his release was reported the next day.

Signed to the WWE in 2020, Steveson went on to win a gold medal at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Being the second-ever gold medalist to compete in WWE, fans naturally drew comparisons at first to the other gold medal winner who competed for the company, Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. Although some predicted that Steveson would become the next Angle, his time in WWE would actually turn out to be the opposite.

Gabe Steveson’s WWE Career

One of the first athletes to be a part of WWE’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), Steveson made a cameo appearance at SummerSlam 2021 before being drafted to Raw later that year. However, despite being a part of the main roster and seemingly bypassing NXT, Steveson would not have a match for the red brand. Continuing to make appearances at WrestleMania 38 to be a part of a post-match angle and on SmackDown to celebrate Kurt Angle’s birthday, Steveson still was yet to debut.

Moved to NXT in 2023, Steveson was part of a storyline where he was looking to make a choice as to whether or not he would continue to pursue amateur wrestling or continue in WWE. Entering a feud with Baron Corbin, Steveson’s one and only televised match for the company took place at The Great American Bash against Corbin and went to a disappointing double count-out finish.

Steveson continued to work SmackDown dark matches and NXT non-televised events until he was eventually released. Steveson’s final match with the company was a victory over Cedric Alexander in a dark match on the February 9th episode of SmackDown.
