Future Of AEW TBS Championship Announced Following Willow Nightingale Injury

AEW has announced how the next TBS Champion will be crowned after Willow Nightingale was forced to vacate the title due to injury.

During the May 30 episode of Collision, Tony Schiavone let the fans know that the ROH Survival of the Fittest match would be coming to AEW.

A Survival of the Fittest match sees wrestlers first compete in qualifying matches to advance to the next stage. Those who qualified will then face off in an elimination match. Whoever is the last woman standing will be the winner and will also be crowned the new TBS Champion. Qualifying matches are set to take place over the next few weeks, with the Survival of the Fittest match announced for the July 1 AEW Dynamite.

The first-ever women’s Survival of the Fittest match took place back at Supercard of Honor on May 15. Athena retained her ROH Women’s Championship by defeating Maya World, Billie Starkz, Yuka Sakazaki, Trish Adora, and Zayda Steel.

No competitors for the match have been announced at this time.

Willow Nightingale Relinquished TBS Championship Shortly Before Double Or Nothing

Originally set to face Alex Windsor in the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Nightingale let the fans know that she had to withdraw due to injury. Nightingale then followed up with the second update that as the injury was a major one, she would have to vacate her TBS Championship. Nightingale won the tournament in 2023.

Nightingale defeated Mercedes Mone on the final Dynamite of 2025 to win the title for the first time in her career.
