The first trailer has been released for the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, and features WWE star Cody Rhodes making a cameo appearance.
The upcoming movie sees Liam Neeson play the lead role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original protagonist, in what will be the 4th instalment of the comedy franchise. Along with the collection of visual gags and puns that the cult franchise became best known for, Rhodes is seen playing the role of a bartender. Rhodes is attacked by Drebin Jr. in the trailer and sees his facial features change after making contact with the bar.
The original Naked Gun trilogy saw the late Leslie Nielsen play the role of Frank Drebin, a detective tasked with solving a case while undergoing a series of comedic mishaps along the way. The 3 movies were released in 1988, 1991 and 1994. Wrestling fans will also remember Nielsen reprising his role as Frank Drebin as part of SummerSlam 1994 as he and co-star George Kennedy investigated the disappearance of The Undertaker, who had been absent from TV since the Royal Rumble that year. Although they did not find The Deadman, they both declared the mystery was solved as the case was literally closed.
Along with Neeson and Rhodes, the 2025 reboot also stars Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser. The movie is directed by Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane and is directed by Akiva Schaffer, who directed the 2007 movie Hot Rod and is a member of the rap group The Lonely Island with Andy Samberg.
The Naked Gun is scheduled for release on August 1st.
Cody Rhodes Seen In Naked Gun Reboot As He Looks To Regain WWE Championship
Best known for his time in the wrestling ring as opposed to the big screen, Rhodes made his return at Saturday Night’s Main Event in May to get revenge on John Cena after Cena defeated him for the Undisputed Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 41. Now an entrant in the King of the Ring Tournament and advancing to the next round, Rhodes will get a rematch with the WWE Champion if he is victorious.
