Veteran referee Earl Hebner has been named as the last inductee into the Wrestling Life Hall of Fame class for 2026.
Wrestling Life founder Ben Veal made the announcement on January 5 that Hebner would be a part of the 2026 class, and has joined fellow wrestling legends in being honoured for his contributions to the industry.
One of the most famous referees in pro wrestling history, Hebner has been the one responsible for counting the winning pin at multiple WrestleMania main events, along with bouts featuring icons such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Steve Austin and The Rock. Although it is said that the best referees are the ones that the fans don’t notice, it is pretty much impossible to forget Hebner’s involvement in one of the most infamous events in WWE history, The Montreal Screwjob. With Bret Hart locked in the Sharpshooter by Shawn Michaels, Hebner called for the bell even though Hart did not submit, setting off a series of events that would change pro wrestling forever.
Veal said the following about Hebner’s induction:
“Earl Hebner redefined what it meant to be a referee in professional wrestling: he was a vital part of the story, the drama and the history of this great business. From the NWA to WWE, TNA to AEW, Earl Hebner’s fingerprints are on some of the most important moments wrestling has ever produced. His consistency, credibility and longevity make him one of the most influential officials of all time, and his induction into the Wrestling Life Hall of Fame is richly deserved.”

Hebner joins fellow legends of the industry who have also been awarded the accolade. Other inductees are the iconic tag team of Bill ‘Demolition Ax’ Eadie and Barry ‘Demolition Smash’ Darsow; British wrestling legend Doug Williams, Al Snow, who has helped many with their pro wrestling careers in and out of the ring, former TNA Knockout Angelina Love, who was one of the pioneers of the division.
Special Hall of Fame induction episodes will air on the Wrestling Life Online YouTube channel and the Wrestling Life with Ben Veal podcast during 2026.
