Drew McIntyre has stated that he feels better than he has in a long time ahead of his return to the WWE ring in a few days.
The Scottish Warrior made his return on the July 4 SmackDown, interrupting a segment between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton following their King of the Ring final match at Night of Champions the previous week. After insulting both Rhodes and Orton, the 3-time World Champion was hit with an RKO from The Viper to close out the segment.
With fans noting that McIntyre looks refreshed after having an extended break, the SmackDown star recently admitted that he is also feeling the benefit. While speaking with Ryan Gaydos of Fox News, McIntyre stated that he feels better than he has in the best part of a decade:
“I honestly feel better than I felt in about, minimum, six or seven years. During this time off, I’ve had a chance to step back and look at everything from an outside perspective – the product itself and more specifically me because I’m only competing against myself as far as I’m concerned.”
“And I’ve realized, wow, OK, I’ve got some areas I really need to improve upon even though, from a fan’s perspective they might say, ‘Well, look at your 2024 going into 2025 on the microphone, in the ring, physique-wise compared to everybody else.’ I said no, no, no. I might look good compared to everybody else but I was not giving it … I’d say I was giving it 65%.”
McIntyre, who recently turned 40, also brought up that he recently enlisted the help of a nutritional coach, something he has not done before:
“For the first time in my life, I’ve brought in somebody to start the diet the right way. I’ve brought in somebody to kick my a– in the gym. I brought somebody in to start doing rehab at the gym, stretching things I’ve never done in my life and it’s unbelievable what it’s opened in my body and feel exactly the way I did probably like before I won the Royal Rumble in 2020. The way I’m moving about now, in general, I feel unbelievable,” he said.
Drew McIntyre WWE Return Match Announced
Shortly after the confrontation with Orton, it was announced that McIntyre would make his return to the ring against The Apex Predator at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. This will be McInytre’s first match since the previous special back in May, which saw him lose to Damian Priest and bring their rivalry to an end. Priest hit McIntyre with a con-chair-to after the match to write the former World Champion off TV.
