Dominik Mysterio

While Dominik Mysterio is one of many second-generation stars to find success in the pro wrestling world, the WWE star has managed to break away from his famous father’s shadow.

  • Date of birth: 5 April 1997
  • Date of in-ring debut – SummerSlam 2020
  • Finishing move – Frog Splash
  • Signature move – 619

Very few have had their introduction to wrestling as unique as Dominik Mysterio’s. At just 8 years old, the future WWE star was seen on national TV as part of the infamous storyline between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero over who was the real father of Dominik. Settling their differences in the Custody of Dominik ladder match, it was Rey who unhooked the contract to become victorious in one of the most bizarre stipulations of the 21st century.

Fast forward to 2019 and Mysterio made his return to TV, albeit much taller than fans remembered and towering over his father. A part of the feud between Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar, Dominik was assaulted by Lesnar in the lead-up to Survivor Series 2019. Although the father and son hit a double 619 on Lesnar, it would not be enough as Lesnar earned the victory over Mysterio despite interference from Dominik.

The following year, The Mysterios became involved in a feud with Seth Rollins and his disciples, which led to Mysterio’s in-ring debut at SummerSlam 2020. With no fans in attendance, Dom put a valiant effort, but was unable to score the victory over Rollins. However, at Payback, Rey and Dom were able to pick up the victory over Rollins and his disciple Buddy Murphy.

At WrestleMania Backlash, Rey and Dom defeated Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Not only was this Mysterio’s first pro wrestling championship, but it was also the first time that a father and son had held tag team gold in WWE.

Following a loss to Logan Paul and The Miz at WrestleMania 38, the Mysterios began feuding with The Judgment Day. With Mysterio lacking character at this point, the second-generation star was frequently confronted by Rhea Ripley, who tried to convince him to break away from his father. Things finally came to a head at Clash at the Castle when Mysterio hit Edge with a low blow and took out his father before storming off.

Joining The Judgment Day, Mysterio became known as “Dirty” Dom and constantly tormented his dad while in the group. After being arrested as part of a storyline, Dom continued to push his father until Rey agreed to face him at WrestleMania 39. Losing to his father, Dom continued his alliance with Ripley and won the NXT North American Championship twice.

After helping Ripley retain the Women’s World Championship numerous times, Ripley was forced to relinquish the title due to injury in 2024. With Ripley gone, Mysterio found himself on the receiving end of Liv Morgan’s advances, which also led to Mysterio accidentally helping Morgan win the Women’s Championship. While it appeared that a romance was blooming, Mysterio was shocked when Ripley made her return. At SummerSlam, Mysterio betrayed Ripley and sided with Morgan, leading to a feud between the new couple and The Eradicator that saw Mami get her vengeance on Dom numerous times.

At WrestleMania 41, Dom won his first main roster singles championship when he captured the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 41. While he would briefly lose the championship to John Cena later that year, Mysterio won the gold back from Cena at Survivor Series. Mysterio also defeated El Hijo Del Vikingo to win the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide: Las Vegas.
