Dave Bautista is currently in negotiations to play the role of Kratos in the upcoming God of War Amazon series, which is based on the popular PlayStation franchise.
As reported by Deadline, Bautista could land the leading role in the highly anticipated series after the original first choice, Ryan Hurst, suffered a bicep injury. Hurst suffered the injury on set four months into shooting and will require surgery.
Production was halted immediately following the injury, with Amazon Studios then making the decision to recast the role of Kratos. Filming is reportedly set to start in mid-October. No stranger to God of War, Hurst was the voice of Thor in the 2022 game God of War Ragnarök. Actor Christoper Judge was the voice of Kratos in the PlayStation games.
Rising to fame in WWE before making the transition into acting, Bautista is very familiar with physical roles and has the physique to play the lead protagonist. Deadline also reports that Bautista had to bulk up for the upcoming Highlander movie, which recently wrapped and stars fellow pro wrestler Drew McIntyre.

The story of God of War sees father and son Kratos (Bautista) and Atreus (Callum Vinson) as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
Other confirmed cast members include Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Moore’s Tall Ship Productions.
