Cody Rhodes has become the first Superstar in the 21st century to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches.
Repeating the events of 2023, The American Nightmare won the iconic match once again, this time eliminating CM Punk last to be victorious. Rhodes entered the match at number 15 and lasted over 40 minutes to cement his match at WrestleMania.
Champions Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were in attendance and watched the events unfold. As Rhodes was celebrating, he pointed out Reigns in the crowd and made it clear that a rematch would be taking place at WrestleMania 40.
Much like the Women’s Royal Rumble, there were no nostalgia entrants and a few surprises from NXT. Most notable was Bron Breakker, who was obviously placed as the replacement for Brock Lesnar, who was withdrawn from the match the day of the show. Additionally, Andrade El Idolo made his return to the company after leaving AEW at the end of 2023.
Will Cody Rhodes Finish The Story?
Earlier in the night, Roman Reigns successfully defended the Undisputed Championship against AJ Styles, Randy Orton and LA Knight. While heavily rumoured, there was no sign of The Rock at the Royal Rumble, which seems to confirm that Rhodes vs. Reigns will main event of WrestleMania Sunday.
Earlier in the night, Bayley won the Women’s Royal Rumble in the opening match of the show.
