CM Punk emerged victorious over Drew McIntyre at WWE Bad Blood and also won their rivalry in the process.
With brutality expected ahead of time, both men delivered on their promise with bloodshed, violence and a Hell in a Cell match that lived up to the hype of the early days of the stipulation.
The match itself began with a lengthy staredown before the brawling ensued. Quickly making its way to the outside, both stars attempted to use the cell to their advantage with Punk first to drive McIntyre into the wall of the chainlink fence. On commentary, Michael Cole said that the match would not be a 5-star wrestling classic and he was right as both men were out for blood with tables, chairs and a toolbox among the weapons used.
Turning the momentum, McIntyre hit a Claymore onto Punk on the outside followed by a lawn dart shot that busted open Punk. Continuing the assault, McIntyre hit Punk with the stairs and a wrench to further inflict damage onto his rival’s head.
Getting back into the match, Punk blasted McIntyre with the toolbox multiple times and busted open The Scottish Psychopath. Attempting to hit the GTS, McIntyre hit a Claymore from out of nowhere to get a near fall.
Later in the match, both men went through a table on the outside as McIntyre drove Punk off the top rope and to the floor. Multiple near falls followed as Punk hit a GTS and McIntyre hit a white noise on the steel steps but neither could put the other away. Just when fans thought they had seen it all, McIntyre pulled out a bag filled with plastic beads to humiliate Punk. However, this would prove to be his downfall as he missed a Claymore and landed on the steps. With a chain wrapped around his knee, Punk hit a GTS to win the match.
CM Punk Wins Drew McIntyre Rivalry 2-1
Due to CM Punk suffering an injury in his return match at the Royal Rumble, the rivalry has been extended for a number of months. Beginning with Punk being a crucial factor in McIntyre’s World Heavyweight Championship reign being brought to an end after 5 minutes at WrestleMania 40, Punk has continually cost McIntyre’s opportunity at becoming a champion once again at Clash at the Castle and Money in the Bank.
When Punk was cleared, the two first met at SummerSlam with McIntyre being victorious. Punk won the rematch at Bash in Berlin to set up the rubber match at Bad Blood.
