Despite the fact that fans in Australia and around the world were very complimentary of AEW Grand Slam, some fans still found a reason to complain about the show.
Emantitng from a packed Brisbane Entertainment Centre, the show saw Toni Storm win the Women’s Championship in the main event of the show and top stars such as Jon Moxley, Cope, Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay in action as part of the debut show down under.
Although many loved the show and look forward to AEW returning in 2026, some fans took to social media to bizarrely take issue with the ring used for the event, stating that it was smaller than normal. Additionally, there was also a rumour that the company did not properly factor in freight times and had to scramble to get loaned a ring for the show. While some fans have taken joy in mocking the promotion over the rumour that spread online, a new report tells a different story,
As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, although AEW generally uses a 20×20 ring in the United States, they don’t ship their rings overseas. Fightful also adds that it was always the plan to use an 18×18 ring and there were no freight or planning issues in preparation for the show. It is also noted that many promotions use an 18×18 ring and that AEW has used 18×18 rings on TV in the past, including when Thunder Rose and Britt Baker fought inside a steel cage.
In regards to how WWE plans for overseas events, the report notes that they have their own rings stored overseas.
