Christian Cage is very proud of what he has accomplished in his career so far, specifically since joining AEW.
Ahead of AEW Revolution 2021, a Hall of Fame-worthy signing was touted to be debuting at the pay-per-view to sign their contract. When the mystery signing was revealed to be Cage, there were some doubters who believed that the hype was not worth the payoff. However, Cage soon silenced the critics by defeating Kenny Omega later that year to win the TNA World Championship, promising to outwork everyone.
From there, Cage’s heel turn saw him target those with deceased fathers and continue his savage insults on the mic, gaining a following from fans in the process. Having captured multiple championships in the company and continuing to perform at a high level, Cage feels like this is the pinnacle of his lengthy career.
Speaking with Yahoo Sports for a new interview, the 51-year-old stated that there was no question about his time in All Elite Wrestling being a career highlight, admitting that he wasn’t expecting this to be his swansong:
“This is, without a doubt, the greatest, the best run,” Cage said.
“Did I see it happening this late? No, but it did. And like I said, when I got my career back after being gone for seven years, I wasn’t coming back to do the greatest hits tour. I was coming back to be the best. And that’s the kind of standards that I hold myself to. Anything less than that, you would not see me step foot in that ring.”
As previously noted, Cage gained notoriety online with comments about Jungle Boy’s late father Luke Perry and telling Adam Copeland “Go f*ck yourself” on Dynamite, both of which went viral online. Referencing his darker moments, Cage stated that while he was expecting a reaction, it was on a whole new level:
“No, I had no clue,” Cage said. “It was a deeply personal line, and I was expecting a reaction. I don’t know if I expected it to go as viral as it did. And when something like that happens you have to jump on it.”
Christian Cage To Team With Adam Copeland Again At AEW All Out
Back at Forbidden Door, the duo of Copeland and Cage reunited for the first time in more than a decade as they defeated Kip Sabian and Luchasaurus in the opening match of the London pay-per-view. Coming to the aid of his friend and rival on the next episode of Dynamite, Cage will tag with Cope once again at All Out on September 20, this time against former Tag Team Champions FTR:
“Cope and I agreed to help each other with our issues. Part of the agreement was we’ll get through this, and there’s no promises beyond that,” Cage said.
“We’ll see where we get to at the end of this. For me as well, at the end of the day, I love collecting titles, I love collecting gold. So in any form of that, I’ll always welcome, always accept that challenge. But at the end of the day, I still want my name in the books as the AEW world champ by the time it’s all said and done.”
