Chelsea Green has admitted that comments made by Michael Hayes on WWE: Unreal were more damaging than any career setback.
During season 2 of WWE: Unreal, Hayes said that Green was a part of the roster t oelevate the likes of Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton; the company didn’t view her as a top star. Despite this, Green was able to make it to the top of the division at SummerSlam. Winning the women’s ladder match that night, Green unhooked the title to be crowned the Interim Women’s Champion. Green’s win was an extremely popular one with the fans, and was also awarded the ESPN’s moment of the night.
Speaking on the Complex Graps podcast, Green stated that there have been very low moments in her career, including being fired, but that Hayes’ comments confirmed what she suspected:
“Man, where should we start? How many times have I been like, ‘Oh, we’re going. We’re going. Never mind.’ I had my NXT debut, and I broke my arm on live television. Thank gosh it was a live dark match, I think. Then I broke my arm live on SmackDown, and I was supposed to go to Survivor Series. That felt pretty low. Then I got fired. That felt low.”
Following the SummerSlam win, Green appeared on the post-show to celebrate her victory. During the interview, Green dedicated the win to Hayes.
Hayes later apologised to Green for the comment made on WWE: Unreal.
