Charlotte Flair was reportedly the reason behind a major creative change that affected plans for WWE SummerSlam.
The past few weeks have seen Flair team with Alexa Bliss in what was first a reluctant alliance that has manifested itself into a successful partnership. Even though the duo claims that they are not friends, complete with a new t-shirt with the phrase, both have brought the best out of each other and tensions have eased on SmackDown. With both Flair and Bliss set to team up once more at SummerSlam on August 2 or 3, a new report has indicated that they were not supposed to be a team long-term.
According to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline, Flair and Bliss were only supposed to be aligned for a short period to lead to a singles match at SummerSlam. However, after Flair asked the company to keep them together, plans have been changed.

Flair and Bliss will once again get an opportunity at the Women’s Tag Team Championships at the August Premium Live Event as they will challenge Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez of The Judgment Day for the titles. Although both Flair and Bliss have previously held the championships, both have been with different partners.
The 2 former Women’s Champions also teamed up as part of a 4-way match at Evolution, which saw The Queen receive a surprisingly positive response from the fans in attendance. In an interview that took place after Evolution, Flair admitted that she was overwhelmed and surprised by the fan reaction, given that she has been portrayed as the heel on TV:
“Literally, when they started chanting ‘We want Charlotte,’ I did a, ‘Y’all chanting for me?’ I was like, don’t tear up on the apron, you have to run a comeback. They made my night. They made my year. They made me feel heard and seen,” Flair said.
“It’s been a hard year, and my comeback didn’t come back the way I thought it would, especially since all I thought about the whole time I was gone was returning. So to hear that ovation and feel the passion for me, it meant everything to me. People forget that the Queen is human. And that the Queen has good days, bad days, and under all that armour and glitter and shine and sparkle, there’s still this little girl that can’t believe she made it, that still works hard, that still wants to achieve goals and dreams. I felt special. They really made me feel special that night as a performer.”
