On Friday, August 18th, news broke that AEW talent Cash Wheeler had been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
After the shock of the initial headline had sunk in, more details came to light regarding what had led up to the arrest. The arrest warrant was issued for Wheeler on July 28th, with a plea of not guilty made on August 3rd. Wheeler would turn himself in on August 18th, being arrested and charged resulting in the news being broken to the wider world. The timeframe meant that this was not a sudden incident that occurred overnight. During this time, AEW stated that they were aware of the incident.
The next update came regarding the nature of the crime [source PWInsider Elite]. Wheeler’s actions were a result of road rage, where Wheeler “flashed a gun” at the alleged victims. Wheeler did not know these victims prior to the incident. Following a video of the arraignment surfacing online, Wheeler was ordered to pay a bond of $2,500, surrender any firearms and not have any contact with the victims.
With Wheeler not being convicted of any crimes, this reportedly means that the AEW wrestler is permitted to travel, meaning the match at All In could still technically take place. Which creates a whole new set of headaches for AEW. While Cash Wheeler is allowed to travel according to the United States authorities, it is down to the UK as to whether or not he will be allowed to get to London.
If Tony Khan removes the match then what does he replace it with? All In already has issues with injuries and fans have criticised the mediocre card for a show of this calibre, with some only excited for 2 matches [1 if the FTR match gets pulled].
Features of Wrestling will provide more updates when they become available.
