Big E has provided a new update on how likely a WWE in-ring return would be at this point.

More than 2 years have passed since the former World Champion suffered a broken neck on an episode of SmackDown after receiving a suplex from Ridge Holland that saw The New Day member fracture his C1 and C6 vertebrae. While Big E was able to avoid surgery and is able to live a normal life in terms of mobility, there has been no further indication that he will make a comeback in terms of in-ring competition.

Speaking with Chris Vannini on Getting Over, the former World Champion stated that while there are no issues with pain his C1 is not forming new bone and clearance will not take place until this happens:

Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet,”

In a previous interview back in August 2023, Big E stated that at that time he was advised by doctors to never wrestle again.

Despite not being cleared to compete, the former World Champion remains involved in WWE as he regularly appears as one of the panellists on pre-shows for Premium Live Events. Also in the interview, The New Day member discussed a recent spot in front of the live crowd at Money in the Bank when he appeared in the ring:

“It was cool. It was just a little hit for the countdown show. The cool part for me was, even though there weren’t a ton of fans in the arena, getting some love again was very very cool. It’s nice being back. It’s something that I’ve been doing for 15 years and it feels like a second home in many ways.”

H/t to Fightful.
