Big E has opened up about what comes next if he is never allowed to wrestle again.
In March 2022, Big E suffered a broken neck after taking an overhead suplex from Ridge Holland on an episode of SmackDown. Although the former World Champion thankfully managed to avoid surgery, he has yet to step inside the ring again and still shows no signs of returning anytime soon.
While many fans are still hoping that the former WWE Champion will get the opportunity for one more run and have constantly sent their well wishes, an in-ring return is looking less and less likely as time goes on. Although he has a good quality of life following he injury, the fact that the bone is not ossifying in his neck means that Big E is still unable to get cleared to compete.
However, if The New Day member is never able to wrestle again, he is looking at the positives and the other projects that have opened up as a result. Writing a retrospective on his career in The Player’s Tribune, the former World Champion stated that he was at peace if this really is the end of his professional wrestling career and noted the opportunities he has both inside and outside WWE:
You know that thing I said earlier — how I’m someone who spent his past not being able to picture a future?
I can picture one now.
Which is ironic, I guess, since I broke my neck and can’t wrestle. But I’m at peace. And if that’s truly a wrap on my in-ring career……. I’m excited to explore the paths that are opening up for me in its wake. Whether it’s working for WWE outside of the ring, or it’s hosting, or acting, or voice work, or filmmaking, or so many other things. I feel like there are still so many parts of myself for me to discover. I feel like I’ve spent the last 10 years with Woods and Kofi on this amazing, life-changing project: trying to perform a version of wrestling that’s in the image of all the things we love. And now I want to find out how far I can stretch that project past wrestling. I want to see if I can actually create some of those things we love.
Big E has frequently appeared on panels for the WWE pre and post-shows for Premium Live Events and is also working behind the scenes as part of the NIL Program. Additionally, the former World Champion has numerous acting roles lined up that are set to air next year.
Big E To Return On Raw?
The December 2nd episode of Raw is set to be an emotional one for a number of reasons as The New Day will officially celebrate 10 years as a group. While many are hoping it will be a positive segment, recent animosity within the group has sparked concerns. While not announced, many are hoping and expecting Big E to reunite with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods once more.
