A multi-time Women’s Champion, history maker and trailblazer, Becky Lynch will go down as one of the most important women in WWE history.

Born Rebecca Quin, Lynch began her wrestling journey in 2002, training under Fergal Devitt [WWE star Finn Bálor] in Ireland. Competing under the name Rebecca Knox, Lynch quickly gained international recognition in Europe and North America. However, while competing in Germany in 2006, a severe head injury forced her into an early hiatus.
After several years away, Lynch signed with WWE in 2013, first appearing on the NXT brand. A far cry from the badass character she would become, Lynch’s debut gained infamy as the future Women’s Champion did an Irish dance on the way to the ring, which Lynch herself has stated was one of the worst moments of her career. Finally finding herself as The Lasskicker, Lynch was called up to the main roster in 2015 as part of the company’s “Women’s Revolution”, which focused on giving the female performers more screen and in-ring time. Additionally, there was more focus on in-ring work as opposed to women being used as sex appeal and bathroom break matches.
Competing against Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 32, the 3 women stole the show in what was easily the match of the night in a lacklustre Mania. While Flair and Banks remained on Raw and continued their battles over the Raw Women’s Championship, Lynch was drafted to SmackDown in 2016 and became the inaugural holder of the blue brand’s Women’s Title.
The defining moment of her career came in 2018. After years of being overlooked, Lynch turned heel at SummerSlam, attacking Charlotte Flair. However, instead of boos, she received overwhelming cheers despite Lynch trying to turn the fans against her shortly afterwards. Known as “The Man,” Lynch was regularly compared to Stone Cold Steve Austin with her anti-authority and win-at-all-costs mentality. While it appeared that Lynch and Ronda Rousey were on course to collide at Survivor Series that year, an invasion angle saw Lynch concussed after being punched in the face by Nia Jax.
After winning the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble, Lynch advanced to WrestleMania 35 to defeat Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first-ever women’s main event, becoming a double champion in the process and earning the nickname “Becky 2 belts.”
In 2020, Lynch stepped away from WWE due to pregnancy, relinquishing her Raw Women’s Championship to former rival Asuka in the process. Lynch returned in 2021, shocking fans at SummerSlam by defeating Bianca Belair in 26 seconds, turning heel in the process and finally getting the fans to boo her. After months of back and forths, Lynch lost to Belair at WrestleMania 38 in what was another strong contender in Lynch’s repertoire.
Becoming a grand slam champion in 2023, Lynch made a brief return to NXT and defeated Tiffany Stratton to win the NXT Women’s Championship for the first time in her career. After retaining the title over Stratton, The Man lost to fellow Irish wrestler Lyra Valkyria.
Taking another hiatus in May 2024, Lynch focused on family life for the best part of a year before making her return at WrestleMania 41, revealing herself to be the surprise partner for Lyra Valkyria. Although they won the Women’s Tag Team Titles, the duo lost the championships the next night on Raw, resulting in Lynch turning heel again.
After multiple matches against Valkyria, Lynch currently reigns as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion. In addition to her accomplishments in wrestling, Lynch is also a bestselling author and has starred in multiple high-profile films.
