Asuka may be the latest name to be sidelined for a significant period of time due to injury.
Ahead of the May 7th episode of Raw, The Empress of Tomorrow was advertised to be a part of the Queen of the Ring tournament in a first-round match against recent call-up Lyra Valkryria. However, earlier in the night following Iyo Sky’s victory over Natalya, Dakota Kai announced that Asuka was dealing with an injury and was not cleared to compete. As a result of the injury, Kai was the replacement and lost the first round match to Valkyria.
Neither Kai nor WWE have provided any more information in regard to the nature of The Empress’ injury. However, it has been previously reported that the former Women’s Champion has been dealing with a knee injury and has missed time at live events.
Asuka Loses Championship At Backlash
The former Women’s Champion last competed at the Backlash Premium Live Event in Lyon, France. Reigning as the Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Kairi Sane heading into the match, Damage CTRL lost the titles to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair in what is Cargill’s first reign as champion in WWE.
Features of Wrestling would like to wish Asuka a full and speedy recovery.
