Ahead of the first-ever AEW Redemption pay-per-view, Tony Khan spoke to the media to answer questions about All Elite Wrestling and the upcoming show.
The media call took place on July 23. Redemption is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The decision to host the show earlier, absences and WWE free agents were among the topics that were discussed by Khan.
AEW Redemption Media Call Notes:
- Tony welcomes the call and he is excited about Redemption.
- Asked about the show starting an hour earlier, Khan said he wanted to try it in Montreal while also adding that All In will be even earlier as it will take place in London.
- Asked about an update on Swerve Strickland, Khan said that he and Strickland would be at Comic Con at the weekend. Khan will be happy to answer more after the PPV.
- Asked about AEW Heels being on hiatus, Khan said it was a project that started years ago for the fans. Khan says he is not involved with Heels right now, but he will follow up.
- Asked about Redemption popping up recently, Khan says he is in a strong period right now. Khan says it is the greatest time for AEW and for the fans. Khan teases that this will be a very important PPV on the road to All In.
- Asked about Sammy Guevara, Khan says there has been no change to his status despite what people have reported. Khan points out that Guevara never had AEW in his bio and wasn’t looking to do anything bad. Khan confirms that Anna Jay is injured but will be staying with AEW, and there has been inaccuracies over Tay Melo’s. Khan confirmed Melo wanted to step away from wrestling, but it was weeks ago and not in 2025. Khan says that a lot of things reported are exaggerated or inaccurate.
- Asked about the free agents, Khan says a lot of talented wrestlers have been released and there are a lot of people he is keeping his eye on.
- Asked about Kenny Omega’s status, Khan spoke highly about the shape Omega is in and how he fought back from a life-threatening illness.
- Asked about the Women’s Title match, Khan said that while Willow Nightingale has not risen up the card as quickly as Thekla, she is someone who represents the best of AEW.
- Asked about MJF and his absence from the card, Khan said MJF has been a fighting champion. Khan said that MJF is not a nice guy, but he is a great wrestler. Khan wants to see MJF wrestle for decades.
- Asked about Kevin Knight and him being put in the main event, Khan has a lot of confidence in Knight. Khan put over Knight’s accomplishments so far.
- Asked about Adam Page, Khan says we will see him soon, citing his recent appearance on Collision. Khan puts over Page and Omega both having held the World, Tag Team and Trios Championships.
- Asked about Will Ospreay and The Young Bucks, Khan spoke about The Bucks and Omega’s history, including his own experiences with The Young Bucks. Khan says that Omega, The Bucks and Moxley all have years of history together.
- Asked about future collaborations such as Fulham, Khan spoke about his love of the football club and what his father has created. Khan said that this is a project that has been worked on for decades, not just match days. Khan reminds that AEW is a sponsor of Fulham, but he doesn’t want to see wrestling affect the football. Khan says there are a lot of opportunities, but he wants to see Fulham thrive.
- Asked about a Crockett-style cup, Khan put over AEW’s tag team wrestling, women’s wrestling and pure wrestling.
- Asked about the name of Redemption, Khan spoke about the merger that he is confident will go through and will form a top competitor. Khan reiterates that it has been a very exciting time for AEW and they have had the highest viewership in years. Khan adds that PPVs are a very important piece of the equation, adding that they have had great buy numbers. Khan also expressed how happy he was with the viewership for Beach Break and the show that followed the following week.
