AEW President Tony Khan has been asked about his previous attempt to buy WWE, with a $6.9 billion bid being the asking price.
Earlier in the year, news broke that Khan was among the rejected bidders who attempted to purchase World Wrestling Entertainment when it was put up for sale in 2023. The company ultimately went to the Endeavor group, who also purchased the UFC to form TKO Holdings, which is now the parent company for both sides.
When it was revealed that Khan was one of the buyers as part of the evidence in a shareholders’ lawsuit against WWE, fans heavily speculated over what could have been if the deal was accepted.
Speaking to Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo on Coach & Bro, Khan was asked about his bid that was ultimately rejected, noting that he thought that the offer was very reasonable:
“I was very interested in the process and if there was going to be a sale, I at least wanted to have a chance to be involved. If it had gone for any less than that, I would have really kicked myself.
“While respecting the confidentiality of that, I would say that I don’t have any complaints about that process from my side that I would want to talk about right now. I do think there was some stuff to that and while respecting the confidentiality of the whole thing, I would also say that, at the time, just reiterating, if it had gone for any less, I would have beat myself up. Why wouldn’t you put in a bid? I thought that was a very reasonable number.”
AEW Owner Tony Khan Not Directly Named In Rejected WWE Bid
In the filing, Khan was not named, but his company Base 10 was. However, it was obvious who was behind Base 10 as the document listed the company as “Base 10 is the owner of All Elite Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion that plainly would enjoy significant synergies with WWE.”
