Swerve Strickland Wins World Championship At AEW Dynasty

Swerve Strickland has become the new AEW World Champion.

Swerve Strickland is the new AEW World Champion.

Competing in the main event of the inaugural Dynasty pay-per-view, Strickland defeated Samoa Joe to win the top championship in AEW for the first time in his career.

Strickland hit 2 Swerve Stomps onto Joe to become the first-ever African-American World Champion for the promotion. Confetti and pyro went off following the victory as Strickland celebrated with Prince Nana. Strickland looked inevitable to be the new World Champion in the near future following his victory over Adam Page at Full Gear 2023 and a strong showing in the 2023 Continental Classic.

The title change was one of many throughout the night as The Young Bucks became the new AEW Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho became the new FTW Champion and Willow Nightingale became the new TBS Champion earlier in the night.

Swerve Strickland Wins Big

This was Strickland’s second opportunity at the World Championship following a loss at Revolution in a triple threat match with Joe and Adam Page. With Page factoring into the finish, Strickland was unable to become champion back in March but was finally able to capitalise in a one-on-one match at Dynasty.
