The rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar is far from over.
The American Nightmare and The Beast met for the first time one-on-one at the Backlash Premium Live Event in the main event. The match would see Rhodes counter a Kimura lock by a bloody Lesnar into a surprise pin to win the match.
On the May 8th Raw, Rhodes appeared to have put the feud with Lesnar behind him, instead wanting to focus on the World Heavyweight Championship tournament. However, Lesnar had other ideas.
In Rhodes’ Triple Threat match that also featured Finn Balor and The Miz, the WrestleMania main eventer appeared to have the match won. However, following a Cross Rhodes onto The Miz, Lesnar would drag Rhodes out of the ring, brutally insulting The American Nightmare.
Brock Lesnar was incensed that Cody Rhodes caused him to bleed so badly, showing off the cuts sustained at Backlash. The Beast then declared that he wanted a fight at Night of Champions.
The current announced card for WWE Night of Champions is as follows:
- Seth Rollins vs. TBD – Singles match where the winner will be crowned the new World Heavyweight Champion
- Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes
