CM Punk Announces Injury – Interim AEW World Champion To Be Crowned

CM Punk has announced that he injured and is currently unable to compete on the June 3rd episode of AEW Rampage.

Punk, who was seen limping as he made his way to the ring, looked upset before he began the address to the live crowd. The AEW World Champion stated that every bone in his body was screaming for him to turn around and go home, even the broken ones. CM Punk would then go on to explain that he is injured and will require surgery.

CM Punk would then provide some good news. Punk would then announce that he will be back and he has felt worse earlier in his career. The champion then addressed the title around his waist, listing potential wrestlers that could be next to hold the championship such as Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. However, AEW President Tony Khan told CM Punk off camera that the bump in the road is believed and that Punk will be back.

It was announced later that a Battle Royale will be taking place on the June 8th edition of Dynamite. The winner of the Battle Royale will be facing Jon Moxley at Forbidden Door, with the winner of that match becoming Interim AEW World Champion.

It should be noted that the winner at Forbidden Door will be the Interim Champion, meaning that when CM Punk returns from injury a unification match will be taking place. CM Punk sadly never got to defend the AEW World Title before the injury, winning the championship from “Hangman” Adam Page at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
