“Danhausen has only been with WWE for 106 days.”
That was the message the very nice, very evil star posted on social media on June 14. Already one of WWE’s most popular acts, a top merchandise seller and now crossing into mainstream sports culture, the unique wrestler has turned a bizarre debut into one of the company’s biggest success stories of 2026.
With his popularity showing no signs of slowing down, Danhausen has already proven his doubters wrong.
The Danhausen Effect & Thinking Out Of The Box
When a mysterious box appeared on WWE programming before Elimination Chamber, fans immediately began speculating about who was inside. While Danhausen’s name was heavily linked to the mystery, others were convinced WWE was preparing a much bigger surprise.
As Chris Jericho was off AEW TV for nearly a year at this point, many assumed that a major Y2J return was set to take place at Chamber. However, at the PLE, the box opened and Danhausen made his dramatic entrance. Complete with a dance routine and low-budget pyro, the Chicago fans booed what they saw. While some just didn’t get the concept, there were others who thought it would be someone else, even though WWE never teased that it would be a major name.
One night later, the former AEW star made his Raw debut in a memorable way. Interacting with The Judgment Day, the newest signee put a curse on then-Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio. Later that night, Mysterio lost his title to Penta. Commentary played into the fact that Mysterio was cursed, and fans took notice. In just one segment, the oddball wrestler was able to show his comedic chops and began to make an impression on the fans.
Also on the show, Danhausen gave his list of demandhausens to Adam Pearce, which included a blimp and his own TV show. Aware that they had something unique, WWE had a blimp fly around WrestleMania, and also had the recent signee interact with their biggest star of the 21st century, John Cena. However, the crowd reactions were only part of the story, as it was later revealed that Danhausen was one of the strongest merchandise sellers in the whole company. As fans have been painting their faces and merchandise flying off the shelves, it became clear that WWE had discovered something different in Danhausen.
Danhausen Terrorises WWE Roster
While character presentation and catchphrases can help a star get over, the in-ring ability is also important. Sadly, there have been many instances of charismatic stars who have failed to deliver when the bell rings. Looking to continue his trademark antics, Danhausen made his long-awaited in-ring debut in April with victories over The Miz and Kit Wilson in separate contests. The goal was never to deliver five-star classics. The matches existed to further establish the character, and in that regard, they succeeded. With comical moves and pyro playing off Danhausen’s supposed supernatural abilities, the matches have been entertaining and have become a highlight of SmackDown.
Even more surprising is how the cult character has been able to get a supernatural gimmick over. While The Undertaker will always be the number 1 star who seemingly possesses powers, WWE have attempted to keep the supernatural ideas going with the likes of The Wyatt Sicks and Aleister Black. However, the dark and mysterious personas have not been able to connect with the fans, whereas Danhausen’s comedic powers have.
Fast forward to Backlash and Danhausen once again became a highlight of the show. Teaming with a Minihausen, the duo picked up the win over Wilson and Miz in what was an entertaining bout. With his undefeated streak intact and his popularity continuing to rise, few could have predicted what came next.
Knicks-Hausen
Appearing on ESPN’s First Take, Danhausen hit Stephen A. Smith with a trademark curse. Smith, who is a New York Knicks fan, saw his team suffer a loss shortly after, which Danhausen mocked on SmackDown. However, things changed when a fan paid for a Cameo from the WWE star, offering him something he values above all else: money. In exchange, Danhausen agreed to lift the curse. From there, the Knicks went on a historic run that ultimately led them to winning the NBA Championship for the first time in more than 50 years. While many sports fans are quick to dismiss wrestling, the very nice and very evil one instead became a good luck charm for the group, and has been seen across mainstream media following the win.
What’s Next For Danhausen?
Whether Danhausen ever reaches the top of WWE’s championship scene almost feels secondary. His greatest strength is that he fills a role few others can: a character who can make audiences laugh, sell merchandise and create memorable moments.
The beauty of professional wrestling is that there is room for everyone on the card. Not every performer needs to be a world champion to become a success.
WWE’s backing, a growing mainstream profile and increasing merchandise sales suggest the Danhausen train will continue for the foreseeable future. Four months after a debut that divided the audience, Danhausen has become one of WWE’s most unlikely success stories. The very nice, very evil wrestler has proven that there is still room in professional wrestling for something truly different.
