WWE presented the first night of WrestleMania 40 on Saturday, April 5th.
Airing live from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, 3 championships were on the line in the first night of action as the Women’s World, Tag Team and Intercontinental Championships were all on the line. The main event saw the long-awaited return of The Rock to the squared circle, who teamed with Roman Reigns to face off against Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. The result of the match would dictate proceedings for the main event of night 2.
The night before the show, one WrestleMania match was changed on short notice. With Dragon Lee not cleared to compete, Andrade took his place and teamed with Rey Mysterio.
Announced as a sold-out crowd, the announced attendance was 72,543.
The Following Results Took Place At WWE WrestleMania Saturday:
- Rhea Ripley defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Women’s World Championship
- The Awesome Truth [Raw] and A-Town Down Under [SmackDown] defeated Finn Balor and Damian Priest, DIY, The New Day and New Catch Republic in a ladder match to become the new Tag Team Champions
- Rey Mysterio and Andrade defeated Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar
- Jey Uso defeated Jimmy Uso
- Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Naomi defeated Asuka, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai
- Sami Zayn defeated Gunther to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
- The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. As a result of the victory, Roman Reigns’ defence of the Undisputed Championship on Sunday will be contested under Bloodline Rules
