WWE sources are not pleased with a recent report.
While most fans had some strong guesses on the line-up for WrestleMania 40 based on the direction of weekly TV, a new update would set the internet abuzz with fresh rumours. On January 24th, a report by Sports Illustrated claimed to have heard from WWE sources that plans had changed for the biggest show of the year.
The article listed the updated line-up as Seth Rollins vs. Gunther, CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns vs. The Rock. Additionally, author Justin Barrasso’s article appeared to show finality in the updated line-up and that Gunther would win the Royal Rumble, not Punk or Rhodes.
WrestleVotes have provided a new update after speaking to their WWE sources. The follow-up claims that while the matches could still be possible, WWE is not impressed that the article portrays the updated line-up as a lock and that higher-ups had leaked this:
Regarding the Sports Illustrated/ WrestleMania 40 report, and after speaking to a few of my own contacts, I believe the following- those 3 matches could absolutely happen in Philadelphia. However, the “set in stone” nature of the article is a little naive I’ve been told. Source also relayed that WWE is not happy with the report in general, especially labeling it as “sources close to Triple H,” as if he’d be so open with this type of specific information.
WWE WrestleMania Speculation Continues
Unlike previous years, the direction for many big matches at WrestleMania still remains uncertain. With many originally predicting that Cody Rhodes would finally finish the story in Philadelphia, The Rock’s return at the start of the year has caused the rumour mill to go into overdrive. Additionally, with Seth Rollins giving the update that he needs to rehab his injury, there are no guarantees that the World Heavyweight Champion will be 100% for the show.
Only one thing is certain, fans have been calling out for unpredictability over the past few years, and this year they are getting it.
