Seth Rollins has provided an update on his injury and timetable for a WWE return.
On January 22nd, Rollins made his entrance on Raw wearing a knee brace and began his update. Before he got to specifics of if he would need surgery, Rollins was interrupted by Gunther. The Intercontinental Champion stared down the World Heavyweight Champion and found enjoyment in the injury. Rollins would respond by stating that he does not require surgery and would go through extensive rehab to make it to WrestleMania.
Speaking with Daniel Cormier on ESPN MMA, Rollins explained how the injury came about and when he felt that something was wrong:
“It happened in the match last Monday. I was wrestling Jinder Mahal in a move I do all the time, the moonsault. I landed a bit short and basically hyper-extended my knee. In the process it was kind of twisting a little bit and I felt it go in a direction that it wasn’t supposed to. I didn’t feel the pop as much as the stretch but I knew something was wrong.
I’ve had knee injuries in the past. Obviously, take a second, take stock, we are on live TV and got to finish the match. We finished the match and then the race was on to get the MRI to figure out what the exact severity of the injury was going to be and what the timetable was like for a return.
Will Seth Rollins Be Defending The Title At WrestleMania?
Rollins continued, addressing his road to recovery. The World Heavyweight Champion admitted that he dodged a bullet by avoiding the ACL tear and is happy that he avoided surgery. Additionally, he hopes to be back in around a month:
“Rehab is going to be a pain. Dodged a bullet the ACL is intact so anybody who knows anything about ligaments in the knee, the ACL’s the big one, that one is good. The MCL will heal with time, we’ll get in there and do some stuff, check out the PRP, and do some rehab. I’m hoping to be back at full strength in around a month, around a month is like kind of my timeline. And we’ll see what happens.
We’re gonna take it day-to-day, I’d like to be back in a month. I don’t wanna walk into WrestleMania & that be my first match in 2 or 3 months, whatever it is, that’s not gonna be good for me. I want to get out there and test the wheel out and make sure we are in a good place. We will see how it goes, we are taking it day by day but I am happy that it wasn’t something that was going to put me on the shelf for 6 to 9 months.”
