WWE SmackDown Results October 17: Title Change Takes Place

The fallout from Crown Jewel and more took place on the October 17 edition of WWE SmackDown.

Returning from a triple taping in Perth, Australia, the show focused on the biggest events that took place at the Premium Live Event and the fallout episode of Raw, which culminated with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacking Seth Rollins in a shocking betrayal.

Announced ahead of time for SmackDown was Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defending the Women’s Tag Team Championships against NXT’s Sol Ruca and Zaria, along with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appearing live.

Vic Joseph and Corey Graves were on commentary for the show.

WWE SmackDown Results October 17:

  • Following a recap of Crown Jewel and the following episode of Raw, the show officially opened with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who informed the fans that the match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu would be to determine the new number one contender for the WWE Championship. Cody Rhodes then appeared live and stated that like the fans, he is very interested in the upcoming match.
  • Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeated Sol Ruca and Zaria to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
  • Sami Zayn hosted a United States Open Challenge. While it first appeared that The Miz would answer the call, he was attacked by Carmelo Hayes. Ilja Dragunov then made his return, defeating Zayn to become the new US Champion. Solo Sikoa and The MFTs attacked both men after the match, leading to The Wyatt Sicks staring them down.
  • The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Los Garza
  • Tiffany Stratton spoke about her loss to Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel. Following a confrontation with Kiana James, a match was booked between the 2 for next week.
  • Jacob Fatu was seen attacked backstage, and was declared unable to compete in the match.
  • Drew McIntyre made his ay to the ring and demanded that he be named the new number one contender. Cody Rhodes stormed to the ring and stated that if McIntyre wanted a match that badly he could have it.
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre ended in DQ when Rhodes used the title. A brawl broke out to close the show.
