Drew McIntyre revealed the stipulations for the 3 stages of hell match and more on the January 2 edition of WWE SmackDown.

With things between WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre now at boiling point, it has been decided that both men will meet on January 9 in a 3 stages of hell match. On the show, McIntyre let Rhodes know the 3 stipulations for their match next week. Additionally, an 8-woman tag team match took place and Damian Priest faced Aleister Black in an ambulance match.

This was also the first episode of SmackDown to move back to 3 hours following the announcement back in December 2025.

Michael Cole and Corey Graves were on commentary for the show.

WWE SmackDown Results January 2:

  • Following a recap of Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre from the previous week, The Miz interrupted the opening from commentary. After Miz aired his grievances, Randy Orton made his return to a huge ovation. Orton hit Miz with 2 RKOs.
  • IYO SKY, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeated The Kabuki Warriors, Nia Jax and Lash Legend.
  • Jordynne Grace was seen backstage about a possible call-up from NXT.
  • Kit Wilson was defeated by a returning Matt Cardona, who competed under his real name.
  • Sami Zayn spoke about wanting to win a World Championship, but was interrupted by Trick Williams, who is now a member of the SmackDown roster. Williams gave Zayn an arrogant introduction, and no physicality ensued.
  • Carmelo Hayes defeated Johnny Gargano to retain the United States Championship.
  • Drew McIntyre revealed his stipulations for the 3 stages of hell match. The first would be a standard match, the second would be falls count anywhere, and the third would be a cage match. McIntyre taunted Rhodes by burning a picture of Rhodes’ late father Dusty Rhodes.
  • Giulia defeated Chelsea Green to win the Women’s United States Championship.
  • Damian Priest defeated Aleister Black in an Ambulance match.
