WWE SmackDown Preview January 16

Drew McInyte will celebrate a huge win and more on the January 16 WWE SmackDown, which will air live from London, England.

Continuing the European tour on the road to the Royal Rumble, SmackDown will air live from the OVO Wembley Arena in international markets, but those in the States will still have to wait until 8 pm local time to catch the show.

The January 9 SmackDown ended in shocking fashion as Drew McIntyre defeated Cody Rhodes in a 3 Stages of Hell match to win the WWE Championship for a 3rd time. Following a return home to Scotland at a Glasgow house show, McIntyre will appear on SmackDown to celebrate his big win.

McIntyre is set to put the title on the line at the Royal Rumble against a challenger to be determined. 4 qualifying matches have been announced for the show, as Randy Orton, The Miz, Sami Zayn, Ilja Dragunov, Solo Sikoa, Damian Priest, Matt Cardona and Trick Williams all look to advance to the next round. The 4 winners will face off at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24, with the winner of that match going on to face McIntyre at the Rumble the next week with the title on the line.

  • Randy Orton vs. The Miz – First round match to determine the new number one contender to the WWE Championship
  • Sami Zayn vs. Ilja Dragunov – First round match to determine the new number one contender to the WWE Championship
  • Solo Sikoa vs. Damian Priest – First round match to determine the new number one contender to the WWE Championship
  • Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams – First round match to determine the new number one contender to the WWE Championship
  • Carmelo Hayes to defend the United States Championship in an open challenger
  • New WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will appear live
