WWE Provides Update On Cody Rhodes Following Brutal Kevin Owens Attack

WWE has provided more information on Cody Rhodes following the shocking events that took place after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.

The American Nightmare defended the Undisputed Championship against Kevin Owens at the returning special and was gifted with the Winged Eagle Championship for one night only to pay homage to the first iteration of the events that took place in the 80s. Despite multiple ref bumps, Rhodes eventually won the match by hitting a Cross Rhodes onto Owens on a steel chair. Although the crowd were happy when the show went off the air, what happened next was much more shocking.

Moments after the show cut, Owens attacked Rhodes and hit the Undisputed Champion with a package piledriver, a move that is banned in WWE. Owens also got heated with Triple H at the top of the ramp and shoved the Chief Content Officer.

Following the attack, WWE has provided a storyline update on its website, detailing the nature of Rhodes’s injury:

Earlier today it was confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered cervical swelling and was kept overnight at a local hospital for observation.

While X-Rays were negative for a fracture, Rhodes has been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm.

It is unknown how long Rhodes will be absent from TV to sell the effects of the Owens attack. Owens hit Randy Orton with a piledriver earlier in the year and Orton has yet to return.

Cody Rhodes Aiming For One More Accolade

Rhodes has already had a standout year with a second Royal Rumble victory, 2 WrestleMania main events and a WWE Championship reign that has now lasted more than 8 months. However, before 2024 comes to a close, Cody Rhodes is looking to achieve one final accomplishment.
