WWE Considering Asking Live Fans To Not Swear During Broadcasts

WrestleMania 42 WWE

The powers that be in WWE are looking to take action on the profanity-filled chants that are becoming more common during shows.

The company has remained a PG product for close to 2 decades with blood, violent spots and adult content almost completely stripped back. While some fans speculated that Raw would become less family-friendly in early 2025 following the move to Netflix, WWE made it clear that the age rating would not be changing anytime soon.

However, although the performers are more mindful of their language, the same can not be said for the fans. The “This is awesome” chant has been effectively replaced with a “Holy sh*t” chant and heels are often met with a “F*ck you” chant. In an attempt to combat this, those in the production truck censor the chants with either stock crowd noise or muting the curse words, creating audio issues in the process.

Suggestion Made To Ask WWE Fans To Stop Swearing

On the May 26th episode of Raw, profanity-filled chants once again took place as Seth Rollins was met with the non-PG reaction from the crowd. Discussing the crowd on Wrestling Observer RadioDave Meltzer noted that there has been a suggestion to remind the fans in the arena that they are part of a live TV show and as such, watch their language:

“With WWE, it is so annoying having to deal with that constant when they do the chants. Sometimes I think, and people have actually suggested this, of just like making an announcement of, ‘Hey, we’re here. It’s a TV show. It’s going all over the world. We want you to have fun, don’t swear.’ In the past if they had done that, the audience would have then started swearing because they wouldn’t want to be controlled. But I think this audience is mature enough and smart enough and everything like that that if you told them that I think they might be okay with it…That is something that has been suggested, I know that, but they don’t do it.”

Although there was no announcement on the May 26th Raw, it will be interesting to see if the proposed idea will be put into action over the next few weeks.
