In a move that has been universally praised by WWE fans, Pete Dunne is back.
Having previously established himself on NXT in the UK and the United States, the former United Kingdom Champion would make his main roster debut in April 2022. Unfortunately, at a time when NXT call-ups were given a reset, The Bruiserweight was introduced as Butch alongside Sheamus and The Brawling Brutes. Described as a child by commentary and booked like a brat, those familiar with Dunne were extremely disappointed with the repacking, some believing it to be one of the worst renames in quite some time.
Fast forward to 2024 and Butch had repeated run-ins with Pretty Deadly. With Sheamus injured and Rudge Holland occupied in NXT, Butch needed an ally. On the first SmackDown of 2024, Butch would reveal that he had an ally in Tyler Bate, who also previously reigned as UK Champion. A backstage segment would take place on January 12th, where Bate and Bucth discussed a possible identity crisis.
On the January 19th episode of SmackDown, fans finally got their wish as Pete Dunne was introduced to the Atlanta crowd.
Pete Dunne Is Welcomed Back By Fans
One of the most technically gifted young stars on the WWE roster, Dunne’s battles with Gunther and Tyler Bate on NXT would be the match of the night on TakeOver events. Ever since Dunne was first introduced to fans at the United Kingdom tournament, fans knew that he would be a future star.
