AEW star Will Ospreay has addressed the recent restrictions that have seen TNA talent pulled from shows at short notice.
Many independent events have been able to take advantage of increased collaboration within the wrestling world in recent times as top stars from the likes of TNA and AEW have competed on the cards. Along with the indies getting more money due to a big star being present, fans are able to see mainstream talent perform in their hometown for a fraction of the price that the big promotions would charge.
However, previously advertised matches between AEW World Champion MJF and TNA star Nic Nemeth, along with AEW star Ricochet and TNA star Leon Slater, will no longer be happening. With the TNA stars removed from the shows, company President Carlos Silva claimed that “partner conflicts” was the reason for this.
“Hang Your Head In Shame”: Will Ospreay On TNA Restrictions
Ospreay, who has competed for promotions all over the world and recently made his return to New Japan, held little back when asked about his thoughts on the matter. While speaking with Josh Martinez, the former International Champion gave an expletive-filled response on the practice, adding that he is disappointed with TNA, a promotion he was a huge fan of while growing up:
“The fact that WWE and New Japan let that match happen, and TNA, out of all people, who the f*ck do you think you guys are? I’m sorry. All the f*cking talk they were giving about being number two and you want give permission for these guys to do that match and then pull them? I think that’s cowardly sh*t. I think that says everything about what you view your talent as. You view them as less than AEW talent, and that they don’t want to grow and they don’t want to develop and they don’t want to give back to fans. That’s me being a hard TNA fan. Those beginning years, the 04,05 era will always be my favourite era in wrestling. But come on, we got all the best guys from there. To be fair, I like Steve Maclin, he’s sick. But hang your head in shame, honestly.”
Ospreay will be in action at AEW Dynasty on April 12, where he will challenge Jon Moxley for the International Championship at the pay-per-view.
