Why Did Orange Cassidy Win The AEW International Championship?

Orange Cassidy was not originally factored into plans to become the new International Champion.

In a surprising turn of events, Orange Cassidy became the new International Champion on the October 10th episode of AEW Dynamite, defeating Rey Fenix for his second title reign. However, this outcome was far from the original plan, with the storyline unfolding as far back as AEW Grand Slam event.

As reported by Fightful Select, the initial plan did not involve Jon Moxley losing the International title in his match against Rey Fenix. Unfortunately, during the match, Moxley suffered an injury early on, leading to a last-minute decision to change the outcome. In an unexpected turn, Fenix managed to secure his first championship win.

A scheduled rematch between Moxley and Fenix on October 10th was intended to see Moxley regain the title following the unexpected shift. However, due to Moxley not being medically cleared to compete, plans were once again changed and Orange Cassidy was inserted into the match.

AEW sources have confirmed that, irrespective of the challenger, the original intention was for the International title to change hands on Dynamite, as it was never the plan for the now-former champion to win at Arthur Ashe.

The report concludes by revealing that Rey Fenix is currently facing visa issues, which will keep him off TV until further notice.
