Who Will IYO SKY Face At WWE Evolution?

Women’s World Champion IYO SKY looks set to face a very familiar foe at WWE Evolution 2 on Sunday, July 13th.

According to Bodyslam.net, there have been internal discussions to have SKY face the woman she defeated to win the title, Rhea Ripley. It is also noted that while the plans have not been locked in at the time of writing, the match is very much on the table.

SKY defeated Ripley on the March 3 episode of Raw to win the Women’s Championship. While at first it appeared that The Genius of the Sky would be defending the title against Elimination Chamber winner Bianca Belair at WrestleMania, constant interference from Ripley left Raw General Manager Adam Pearce with no choice but to make the match a triple threat. SKY retained the title at Mania in what was widely regarded to be the best match of the entire weekend.

Despite being the top Women’s Champion on the Raw brand, SKY has yet to defend her title since WrestleMania. SKY last competed on the May 12 Raw, teaming with Ripley to defeat Giulia and Roxanne Perez. During the celebrations, Ripley was seen staring at the title, foreshadowing future plans.

Ripley was in action at the Night of Champions event on May 28, defeating Raquel Rodriguez in a street fight.

WWE Forced To Pivot With IYO SKY Plans

It should be noted that SKY vs. Ripley was reportedly not the original plan for the Women’s World Champion. Previous reports indicated that a match between SKY and Liv Morgan was scheduled to take place at Night of Champions, but plans were scrapped as Liv Morgan suffered a shoulder injury on the June 16 Raw. It has also been reported that a lot of plans have been changed as a result of Morgan’s injury.

A WWE Hall of Famer has also been rumoured to make their return at Evolution.
