Mr. McMahon, a documentary series chronicling the rise and fall of the WWE’s controversial founder, is coming to Netflix on September 25. From Chris Smith, Executive Producer of Tiger King, and Bill Simmons. Including interviews with McMahon prior to his resignation, his family, and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history. As well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations.

The full synopsis from the show is as follows:

“‘Mr. McMahon’ chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE. From his transformation of the WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse to the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation, this six-episode series offers a deep dive into McMahon’s life and his enduring franchise.

Culled from over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (prior to his resignation), his family members, business associates and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations — filmmaker Chris Smith (‘Tiger King’) and executive producer Bill Simmons (’30 for 30′) present an unflinching, no-holds-barred look at one of the most enigmatic figures in sports entertainment.”

Executive producer Chris Smith said the following regarding the project:

“The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world. Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

The show is already listed on Netflix and has an 18 certificate on the UK platform, likely indicating that nothing will be off-limits. It is also unknown at this time if the 6 episodes will be released weekly or in one instalment.

Vince McMahon Project Will Happen 4 Years On From Original Announcement

Originally announced back in October 2020, the project was going set to give a never-before-seen look at the life of McMahon. However, with McMahon being notorious for wanting complete control of his broadcasts and a private individual for the majority of his life, longtime fans of WWE were highly sceptical as to how much new information would actually be disclosed.

Many were sceptical as to whether the project would actually go ahead given the unpredictable events that have occurred since. Since October 2020, McMahon resigned from his position as Chairman of the Board due to allegations of hush money payments and NDAs in July 2022 before returning to facilitate a sale at the end of the year. Back in the company in early January, McMahon sold WWE to the Endeavor group shortly after WrestleMania 39.

On January 23rd, WWE and Netflix announced a groundbreaking deal which would see Raw become the exclusive home of the flagship show for the foreseeable future around the world. By the end of that week, Vince McMahon had resigned a second time following allegations of sexual misconduct from former WWE employee Janel Grant. As noted by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, Grant has not been interviewed for this project:

Due to the proposed nature of the docuseries, the events that unfolded and WWE’s partnership with Netflix, fans were uncertain as to if the series would ever see the light of day given the sensitive nature of what could come out in the series.

Despite McMahon being known for wanting complete control, previous interviews have stated that he has no say over what will make the final cut.
