More information has been provided on AEW star Claudio Castagnoli following rumours about his status within the promotion.
The AEW star was notably absent from the Grand Slam Mexico event earlier in the year, sparking speculation about the reason why. With it being almost 3 years since his arrival in the promotion, there was speculation that the time away was related to contract issues. However, according to a new update, the former Trios Champion isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Castagnoli still has a significant amount of time left on his current deal, and that Tony Khan is very interested in keeping him in the promotion for the foreseeable future.
When Did Claudio Castagnoli Join AEW?
Following his WWE exit in 2022, Castagnoli officially became All Elite at the first Forbidden Door show later that year. After Bryan Danielson revealed that he was unable to compete at the inaugural AEW X NJPW event due to injury, the Swiss wrestler was revealed as the replacement and Zack Sabre Jr’s opponent. Castagnoli picked up the win in his debut and went on to align himself with The Blackpool Combat Club.
During his time in AEW, Castagnoli has captured the Trios Championship once and the Ring of Honor Championship twice.
