Triple H has given his thoughts on online fans who criticise WWE and how the company responds to online backlash over various angles or results.
There have been times where the fan reaction online is vastly different to that of the live fans in the venue. A notable example of this was when Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble earlier in the year. Although the fans in the stadium were happy with the result and Uso remains over with the live crowd each week, social media told a different story. With videos hit with dislikes and a tirade of negative comments from disgruntled fans, some went as far to say that Uso was one of the worst Royal Rumble winners in history.
While the Chief Content Officer is aware of the feedback online, it is not something that he is choosing to pay too much attention to. While appearing on Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast, Triple H noted that a lot of things said on the internet are not true, such as those who take issue with Cody Rhodes:
“Here’s the beautiful thing about our world: The internet is not real life. And the bitching and the f—ing complaining that is on there is not real life,” Levesque said. “You could read the internet and it’ll sound like this thing is dead.”
“I’ll use Cody as the example — ‘Cody’s already jumped the shark, he’s dead as a babyface.’ Really? ‘I don’t know. I’m in an arena with 10-15,000 people every night going apeshit for me, selling the most merchandise.’ But sure, whatever you want to say on the internet, that’s the golden rule.”
Triple H Previously Addressed Criticism
At the start of the year, a cinematic video package aired to hype up the debut of WWE Raw on Netflix. Narrated by the Hall of Famer, the video saw a number of insider terms used, leading to criticism that the curtain was being peeled back too much. In a previous interview, Triple H responded to the backlash.
