Tony Khan declined an opportunity to get a TV deal for Ring of Honor.
The CW Sports Network has become the talk of the wrestling world. Beginning with rumours that this was the network that was going to bring the NWA to national TV, fans were somewhat surprised when WWE NXT announced that the network would be their new home in October 2024. It has since been speculated that WWE have landed the CW deal that was originally pencilled in for NWA. However, according to a new report, there was one promotion that could have beaten both WWE and NWA to the lucrative deal; Ring of Honor.
As reported by Haus of Wrestling, an executive from the CW Network approached Khan back in June 2022, a few months after Khan had announced that he purchased ROH and was reviving the promotion. While discussions were friendly, Khan declined as he wanted to secure a new deal for AEW in 2024 before considering a deal for the secondary promotion:
From what we understand, Khan did not pursue talks with The CW as he refuses to seriously entertain new deals for ROH until AEW TV rights are in play, which will be in 2024. Khan feels that by waiting, he will have more options and leverage in the marketplace.
