Tony Khan Responds To Claim That WWE Will Be Responsible For Downfall Of AEW

AEW president Tony Khan has taken notice of a fan claiming that WWE will be the ones responsible for the end of the promotion, and has given them a humorous response.

Launching at the start of 2019 and gaining a lucrative TV deal just over 9 months later, All Elite Wrestling established itself as the second biggest promotion in the United States. With major financial backing from the Khan family, notable starpower and providing an alternative at a time when WWE was not creating good content, AEW became a major player in the wrestling world very quickly, with many comparing it to the rise of WCW in the 90s.

However, following the formation of the new promotion, there has also been a rise in tribalism online with many fans using their desired metric to try and argue that their favourite brand is superior, be that ratings, attendance, star ratings and even ticket prices. On August 17, Khan was promoting the latest episode of Collision on social media, prompting one fan to let their opinion be known:

“WWE is gonna bring you down and close shop can’t wait.”

Taking notice of the shot, Khan simply responded with a GIF of Patrick Stewart saying “That will be the day”:

Tony Khan Potentially Faced With WWE Counter Programming

With AEW on the rise once more following a turbulent 2024, WWE has once again started to put on shows on the same day as its competitor. The latest update seemingly indicated that the as-yet-untitled show will air on ESPN and will use the name of a classic ECW event.
