Tony Khan has no issues with how social media impacts the world of professional wrestling, both positive and negative.
Wrestling and social media have somewhat of a complex relationship, especially since the arrival of AEW in 2019. Defending their favourite promotion no matter what, tribalistic comments have made their way online with fans determined to argue that their favourite promotion is the best.
Extending beyond respective fanbases, talent and even Khan himself have let their opinions be known on social media and have not been afraid to take shots at their rivals, with mixed results from the fans in regards to whether or not it was the correct decision. While appearing on The Rocker Morning Show, Khan was asked about the way that AEW and WWE take shots at each other and how it was similar to what happened between WWE and WCW back in the ’90s:
“In the 90s, certainly, I do think a lot of that helped fuel the wrestling economy but it was a very different time. Things weren’t all online, everybody wasn’t online all the time. It was a very different time for wrestling and a different time to be a sports fan, I think. And it’s changed for sports but I think that those rivalries and those debates in sports are pretty healthy and I think for wrestling too, for better or for worse, it’s a big part of wrestling fandom now. It definitely is a way that people keep up on the shows and watch the shows and for me, I’m a big, big fan of that. I love promoting the shows online and I know that our wrestlers are really engaged socially and it makes for healthy competition, I think.”

Extending beyond social media, Khan continues to let his feelings be known about the competition while still having the underdog mentality. Appearing in an NFL interview during the draft, Tony Khan compared WWE to Harvey Weinstein.
