Tony D’Angelo Ends Oba Femi’s Record Reign On WWE NXT

Tony D'Angelo makes history by becoming the new NXT North American Champion.

Tony D’Angelo has been able to do what so many failed to do before him, defeat Oba Femi and become the new NXT North American Champion.

On October 8th, NXT presented its 2nd show on the CW Network and continued to make a lasting impression with a live taping in St. Louis, Missouri, Randy Orton in action and multiple title matches booked for the show.

As expected, Femi looked to use his power to gain the advantage over D’Angelo but the former Tag Team Champion had the edge with his agility and gained the upper hand when he drove the champion through the announce table. In an upset victory, D’Angelo countered a powerbomb attempt into a pinning combination to win the match and the North American Championship for the first time in his career.

A popular choice, D’Angelo celebrated with the rest of The Family as the fans cheered on.

This was the second title change in as many weeks on NXT as Trick Williams defeated Ethan Page the week prior to become the new NXT Champion.

Tony D’Angelo Ends An Era

Shortly before the title match, Oba Femi set a new record in NXT as he became the longest holder of the North American Championship in the title’s history. Femi’s reign ended at 273 days, surpassing the previous record set by Wes Lee of 269 days.
