Title Change Takes Place At January 17 AEW Collision Taping [SPOILER]

New champions were crowned at the latest AEW Collision taping, which is set to air on Saturday, January 17.

At the latest taping, which took place after the January 14 episode of Dynamite: Maximum Carnage went off the air in Phoenix, Arizona, Adam Page, Kevkin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey defeated Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata to win the AEW Trios Championships. The victory marks the first title reign for Bailey and Knight, while Page is a former World and Tag Team Champion in the company.

The victory also brings to an end The Opps’ time as Trios Champion at 264 days.

Why Title Change Took Place At January 17 AEW Collision Taping

The reason for The Opps losing the Trios Championship on Collision is because one of the members of the group may soon be departing the company. As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Powerhouse Hobbs’ deal is set to expire at midnight on January 14, but it should be note that there have been ongoing negotiations between both sides. However, despite the report noting that AEW made a “huge” offer to keep Hobbs, sources within WWE expect the former TNT Champion to join their promotion soon. It should be noted that company sources have been interested in him for quite some time, and that his singing looks to be set barring any exceptional circumstances.

Fightful adds that Hobbs is leaving the company on good terms and that negotiations had been ongoing over the past few months.
