The Undertaker has addressed meeting his hero and how the match sadly never came to be.
Having been in the industry for more than 3 decades, The Phenom has faced off against some of the biggest stars from the past and present. However, with some matches never materialising, Undertaker has one name at the top of his dream match list.
At 7 foot 4 and weighing more than 500lbs, Andre The Giant certainly lived up to his name and was one of the biggest attractions of the 1980s. Facing off against Hulk Hogan in the main event of WrestleMania 3, one of the biggest in the history of the event, Andre The Giant was on the receiving end of the slam heard around the world and a leg drop to allow The Hulkster to remain the champion.
While Undertaker and Hogan faced off numerous times, Undertaker was never able to get a match against Andre due to the Hall of Famer’s ongoing health issues. By the time The Deadman arrived in WWE, Andre was in no condition to compete. In multiple interviews, Undertaker has reiterated that Andre was his ultimate dream match that sadly never came to be.
Speaking about his memories of Andre The Giant on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Hall of Famer recalled meeting Andre when he was younger and elaborated on the legacy The Giant left:
“I think that’s one that really stands out because I met Andre as a child.” He continued, “Andre was that one of those pinch me moments, because I again, I’d met him as a child, and then I’m in the same dressing room with him, which was really cool. A lot of people don’t really understand how important Andre was to the industry.”
“So before there was a Hulk Hogan or anything, Andre was the one that was the face of wrestling, and he was the one that was doing the Johnny Carson Show, and he was the one that was doing the movies. He was just he was bigger than life. So meeting Andre was just one of those moments. It was just like, Wow. This has come full circle. As a little kid, him shaking my hand to now I’m in the same dressing room, and he hadn’t thrown me out yet.”
The Undertaker Addresses WrestleMania Streak
If Undertaker and Andre The Giant ever did face off, kit would have likely taken place at a WrestleMania given the magnitude of the match. On a previous episode of his podcast, The Undertaker spoke about his WrestleMania streak and who he wanted to break it.
