The Rock has addressed the shocking series of events that took place at Elimination Chamber.
In one of the biggest moments in WWE history, John Cena did the unthinkable as he turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes after The American Nightmare refused to sell his soul to The Final Boss. With fans expecting to see Cena remain babyface throughout his retirement run, many in Toronto and around the world were stunned by the events that took place at the Premium Live Event. Prior to the heel turn, Cena won the Elimination Chamber match, meaning that he will face Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania 41, likely in the main event of night 2.
Appearing at the post-show press conference, Rock spoke about the unpredictable segment and how few saw it coming:
“It was an amazing moment. We as entertainers, whether in pro wrestling or film or television or whatever it is, you really live for moments like that where you can hopefully create something that can be very compelling and moving for the audience and take tonight 38,000 strong here in Toronto and what we have collectively thought about and talked about in the back, before and certainly after this moment, is no one knew really what was going to happen. Maybe a few called it. But for the most part, I thought the moment was incredible and I personally love that.”
“What I felt tonight, and I’ve been a part of some really phenomenal professional wrestling angles and as a kid growing up I’ve seen, we all have, some amazing pro wrestling angles,” he continued. “I felt like tonight stood beside all of those that were the iconic angles.”
Cena also appeared at the press conference but did not say anything. Instead, the 16-time World Champion picked up the microphone and dropped it before making his exit.
What’s Next For The Rock And John Cena?
Although the heel turn will be addressed on the March 3rd episode of Raw, neither Cena nor Rock are advertised to appear live. Cena will next appear on March 17th at the Raw taping in Brussels, Belgium. It is unknown at this time when The Rock will appear again.
