The Latest On WWE In-Ring Return Plans For CM Punk

When will CM Punk make his long-awaited return?

CM Punk may be back in WWE later than when fans have expected.

Following weeks of laying low and not being seen on Raw, Punk made his presence felt in a huge way at WWE Clash at the Castle when he attacked Drew McIntyre and ultimately cost The Scottish Warrior the chance to win the World Heavyweight Championship in his home country in front of a packed Glasgow crowd.

Appearing at the press conference as a last-minute addition following McIntyre’s storyline storming out of the arena, Punk was asked about his injury status and claimed that his activity was limited and that he would not be at the June 17th Raw as he was going to get his injury assessed.

“I’ve been cleared, only for referee duty. I had a little bit of a hiccup out there. We’ll go back to the lab and reassess. I can tell you that my arm feels amazing. I got permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi to go home to Chicago to see my doctors with the idea that I’m going to be cleared.”

“I think SmackDown is in Chicago next week. I’m a Raw guy, but I’m going to skip Raw, get cleared, and show up to SmackDown and let everybody know the good news. Hopefully.” H/t to Fightful.

While on the surface this could lead to a major announcement, Dave Meltzer has provided more information, stating that the absence is actually in storyline and Punk is not going to go and get checked out in Chicago. Furthermore, the SmackDown appearance on June 21st is expected to provide more of an indication as to when Punk could be back in action.

When Will CM Punk Return?

Earlier in the day, WrestleVotes provided their own update, stating that it is unlikely that Punk will be cleared in time for Money in the Bank on July 6th but should be expected for SummerSlam:

As of last week’s RAW roster sheet, CM Punk’s official return date was set for the end of July. I’m told he likely won’t be cleared for action by MITB on 7/6, but he should be ready for SummerSlam on 8/3.

Punk last wrestled at the Royal Rumble and suffered a torn triceps in his first televised match back in WWE.
