The Hardys Win NXT Tag Team Championships & Make History

The Hardys are the new NXT Tag Team Champions, and in the process have accomplished a first-time-ever feat!

Competing in a winner-takes-all match at the NXT vs. TNA ShowDown special, TNA Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy defeated Osiris Griffin and Dion Lennox of Darkstate to win the NXT Tag Titles for the first time in their legendary careers. The closing moments of the match saw Matt hit the Twist of Fate on both men, followed by Jeff hitting the Swanton onto Lennox to win the match for his team.

The victory brings to an end DarkState’s reign at 44 days. The now former champions won the titles back at Heatwave on August 24.

After the match, The Hardys held the titles in front of Bully Ray and D-Von [Team 3D], who were sitting in the crowd. The Hardys and Team 3D are set to face off at Bound For Glory on October 12 in a tables match, which will be the final time the 2 pioneering teams will face each other.

As a result of the victory, Matt and Jeff are the first wrestlers not signed with WWE to capture one of the company’s championships, and the first team to hold TNA’s and NXT’s Tag Titles simultaneously. While multiple NXT stars have captured TNA’s titles, including current World and Knockouts Champions Trick Williams and Kelani Jordan, respectively, no one from TNA was able to win NXT gold until now.

The Hardys Add NXT Championships To Their Legacy

One of the most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling history, Matt and Jeff have previously captured the Tag Team Championships in WWE, Ring of Honor, and multiple independent promotions. In WWE and TNA, The Hardys have held the titles a total of 14 times.
