"Stop Crying": Gunther Responds To Criticism Of John Cena Match

Gunther has told the WWE fans to “Stop crying” following on from his victory over John Cena that brought the 17-time World Champion’s career to an end.

In one night, The Ring General became one of the most hated stars on the roster when he forced Cena to submit, retiring the WWE legend in the process. Fans in attendance in Washington and watching around the world were furious with the result, heavily booing Gunther and later Triple H, while also letting their opinions be known online.

The following Monday on Raw, the former World Champion opened Raw and laughed at the boos from the crowd, telling the fans he as happy that he made Cena tap out “like a little bitch.” Unsurprisingly, the Raw star has not had a change of heart a few days later.

“Stop Crying, Life Goes On”: Gunther Shows No Sympathy To WWE Fans

In his first interview since retiring Cena, Gunther spoke with TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast. Opening up the interview, Gunther joked that he had been preparing the past 20 years to beat Cena:

“It feels very good. You just mentioned 20 years, funny enough, in November, I had my 20-year anniversary as a wrestler so I can claim I prepared all those 20 years to make John Cena tap out so, fits into each other.”

Continuing, The Ring General noted that it was easily the biggest win of his career, adding that it was more important than WrestleMania:

“It was definitely the biggest or the most meaningful win, maybe, of my career or the win with the biggest reaction afterwards. That I can definitely say. It’s hard to compare to anything else because John Cena has been such a legendary figure in WWE the wrestling world in general. It’s really hard to compare. Like the whole day, I could tell people were really tense and very serious about everything. It almost felt like more important than WrestleMania to a lot of people backstage, if I can compare it to that. I mean, I knew what I was going to do anyway. So the clock was ticking. It almost felt like a time bomb to explode at the end of the day. And, yeah, well, it did. Thankfully to my advantage.”

The Raw star also confirmed reports that he was swarmed by fans afterwards, who were clearly unhappy with what transpired.

When asked if he had anything to say to the fans who were upset with the way that Saturday Night’s Main Event played out, Gunther gave a blunt response:

“Stop crying. Life goes on,”
